The Bible Sunday was celebrated at Vailankanni on Saturday 11th Dec 2011. Different kinds of completions were conducted for children at various educational institutions at Vailankanni and Bible exam conducted for the parishioners well in advance. There was a cultural programme too in front of the priest’s residence in which there was Bible Quiz programme. The parish priest Rev. Fr. B. Arokiadoss delivered a special speech on the importance of Word of God and distributed prizes for those who participated.Click for Photos

The Golden Jubilee Year 03.11.2011
The Golden Jubilee Year of the Shrine’s Elevation to the Basilica was officially inaugurated on 3rd Nov, 2011. There was a solemn con-celebrated pontifical High Mass at 6 p.m. by the archbishop of Pondicherry and the bishops of Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Salem, along with priests, religious, parishioners and devotees of Our Lady of Health Vailankanni.
Soon after the mass, there was a short inaugural function at the Shrine Auditorium. "Come and Pray" a book which contains time table for prayer for the whole year was released. All through the Jubilee year, everyday the Blessed Sacrament would be exposed at Our Lady's Altar from 3p.m. to 4p.m., while Sisters and members of the pious association will pray for the various intentions as mentioned in the book.

St. Don Bosco Visited the Shrine 21.10.2011

Feast of Our Lady of Rosary was celebrated in the Shrine 07.10.2011
Since month of October is dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary, Chain Rosary is recited while the Holy Eucharist is exposed in the Shrine.
On 1st of October, Rev.Fr. Rector inaugurated this by lighting the lamp at Our Lady's Tank.
Every day from 7am to 5 pm Chain rosary is recited at Our Lady's Tank by Sisters and the members of the Legion of Mary and from 8 pm to 10 pm Rosary is recited in the Main Shrine by the Anbiam Families.
On 7th of October the Feast of Our Lady of Rosary was celebrated in the Shrine. The Solemn con-celebrated Mass is presided over by Rev. Fr. D. Amudan and it was followed by the Car procession and BenidictionClick for Photos

Rev. Fr.B.Arokiadoss, the Parish Priest` Lowered the flag of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 05.45 p.m. followed by the procession of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. With Benediction of the Holy Eucharist and Mass, the Feast of Mount Carmel came to an end, with abundant blessings of the Mother of Mt Carmel.
The entire feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was grandly celebrated by more than 6000 Marathi speaking pilgrims from Mumbai. Their act of participation in all the liturgical services, act of confessions, receipt of sacraments, participation in all the prayer services, their personal prayer and devotion, their acts of attachment to the Mother of Health of Vailankanni all need our sincere praise and encouragement.

Novena Days of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel 07.07.2011 To 14.07.2011
During all these Novena Days of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, the Marathi speaking devotees conducted ´Stations of the Cross´ at 06.30 a.m. in the holy path. Confession was heard for the Marathi-speaking pilgrims during these days. our Lady´s Car procession took place around the Shrine at 05.45 p.m. Marathi and Tamil hymns were sung during these processions and Rosary was recited in these two languages. The procession was followed by litany, benediction and Mass in Tamil everyday in the Lower Basilica. The Flag Procession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was taken along the beach road at 05.30 p.m. Very Rev.Fr.A. Michael the Rector of the Shrine blessed the flag. The litany was conducted in the Lower Basilica followed by Benediction and Mass in Tamil by Rev.Fr.B.Arokiadoss, the Parish Priest of the Shrine. Women's Day Celebrations 12.03.2011
Women's Day was celebrated at Vailankanni on Saturday, the 12th of March. March 8 is observed as the International Day of Women. At Vailankanni, it was celebrated three dates later for some practical reasons. In collaboration with the TMSSS, the women groups in Vailankanni had organized a huge rally to mark the Day. At 2.30 pm, the rally began at the Shrine Booking Office and reached Christhu Raja Mahal in half an hour's time. In the concluding function that took place at CR Mahal, many dignitaries - including Shri A K S Vijayan, Honorable MP, Nagappattinam Constituency, Rev Fr B Arockia Doss. Parish Priest, Mrs Juliet Arputharaj, Chairman, Mrs Valarmathi, Former Chairman - participated. Speaking at the function, Shri A K S Vijyan lauded the role that Women Self-Help Groups play in the over all development of the women in India. He also promised a sum of Rs 10,00,000/- towards building a Meeting Hall for women at Vailankanni. In the evening, Rev Fr B Arockiadoss presided over a Women's Day Special Mass in the lower Basilica. Ash Wednesday 09.03.2011
Ash Wednesday was observed in Vailankanni on 9 March in the traditional way. Devotees had gathered in huge numbers at Our Lady's Basilica that day. Presiding over the morning 6 o' clock Mass at the main shrine, Very Rev Fr A Michael, the Rector, blessed the ashes and preached about the three noble Lenten practices: prayer, penance and charity. Ashes were blessed and applied in all the Masses that day. The Lenten feeling was very much in the air throughout. It was wonderful too see pilgrims bring even their kids to have ashes applied.Click for Photos
ShrineTV Receives Warm Response 01.03.2011
It has been more than two months since Shrine Basilica, Vailankanni, launched the Web TV Service in its official website. Readers of Vailankanni Calling and visitors to www.vailankannishrine.org may be aware that His Excellency Most Rev Dr Devadass Ambrose, Bishop of Thanjavur, inaugurated the Web TV service during the New Year Midnight Service on 31 Dec last year. Ever since, on all Saturdays and Sundays, the Masses at the Shrine Basilica are live web-cast through the Web Tv. We are glad to note that the devotees of Our Lady have taken to the Web Tv in a huge way and the service is warmly received and much appreciated. Given here are a few of the many comments that we receive week after week.

Mrs L Philomin, the beloved mother of Rev Fr L Sahayaraj, the Editor of Vailanaknni Calling and Vailankanni Kuraloli, passed away on 25 Feb 2011. Her funeral service was held at Our Lady of Help of Christian's Chruch, Mathakottai, Thanjavur, the same day at around 3.00 pm. Nearly a hundred priests of the diocese of Thanjavur participated in the service and paid their last respects to Mrs Philomin. The 80-year old survived by his six sons. Rev Fr L Sahayaraj has been the editor of the Shrine magazines for the past three years. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Rev Fr L Sahayaraj on the demise of his beloved mother. May her soul rest in peace!
Republic Day Celebrations 26.01.2011
The Shrine celebrated the nation's Republic Day on 26 Jan in the tradional way. Priests, Sisters, and devotees gathered in the open space in front of the Priest's Residence. In keeping with the tradition, Shrine's Security men did a march-past. Very Rev Fr A Michael hoisted the National Flag and gave a speech. Infant Jesus Festival 17.02.2011
Vailankanni Parish has a small chapel dedicated to Infant Jesus. It is located some five kilometers north off Vailankanni, on the way to Nagappattinam. The Annual Feast of this Infant Jesus chapel was celebrated on 3 Feb, the First Thursday of the month. Very Rev A Michael , presided over the Feast Mass, attended by nearly thousand devotees of Infant Jesus. Elaborate arrangements had been made for the feast. Fr B Arockia Doss, the Parish Priest, thanked the donors and all those who worked hard for the annual feast. At the end of the Mass, there was a solemn, grand car procession of Infant Jesus. Motivation sessions and Special Masses for Students 17.02.2011
The Shrine organizes a Motivation session and a Special Mass for X and XII students on all the Saturdays in the month of February. Many schools in Tamil Nadu bring their X and XII students to Vailankanni before they appear for the Public Exams. In order that the students may benefit more, the Shrine took up this initiative last year: a session and a special Mass. It was kept up this year too.
